    Works great!
Received this as a Christmas gift and I really like it. It gives a temp reading fast and it seems accurate, definitely better than anything I had before this. Soon as you unlock the probe from the closed position, it turns on so it works it as position. The screen is lcd but has a button to press that backlights it so you can read it in the dark which is a great feature when grilling at night. It’s got magnets in the handle so I keep it stuck to the side of my microwave so it’s always a fast grab when I need it. I have used it quite often for the two months I’ve had it, and so far and it’s been great. Only time will tell how long it really lasts but I’m not expecting any issues.

Fast, accurate, intuitive to use! 100% worth the price!
As a late 20-something on a tight budget, I’ve tried a bunch of less expensive thermometers over the years & at various relatives homes, but finally got frustrated with their shakey accuracy and/or how quickly they break. After this one, I’ll never look back! This is 100% worth the price point. And it rivals the instant thermometers I used in professional sensory testing kitchens in college.Mine has been working perfectly for almost a year now, and it’s become my go-to housewarming gift for all my friends.I was a little worried that it was only described as “water-resistant,” since I’m definitely not the neatest cook. But I’ve rinsed the full base of mine under running water at least a few times now (only times it was really sticky!), and can confirm the display didn’t get all water-logged or foggy like i was worried about! Normally, i do just wipe down the probe portion with soapy water. The only criticism I have is that the magnet isn’t super strong, so it doesn’t stick to my fridge without sliding down when the door is opened. (It would probably stick to a metal grill though). I didn’t take off any starts because I don’t really care about to the magnet, (it was easily fixed by hanging it on a Command hook instead), but just a heads up for those who are really interested in that feature.Seriously though, if your hesitating between this and a cheaper model, just get this one. You won’t be disappointed and it will last much longer!

Awesome thermometer! More than 6 years of problem free operation.
Purchased the green one in October of 2018. Still going strong and I don’t think I have even replaced the battery. If I have it has only been once.Performs quickly, magnet works for my fridge and the side of the grill and the backlight comes in handy. Usuually the autorotate works well, although there are a few times where it might rotate when you would prefer it did not. But I’d rather suffer through those few times and have it, than not.Has survived several drops to concrete from BBQ grill level and have not had any problems with washing due to there are no mechanical buttons. All around, one of my favorite grilling tools if not my favorite.

    big upgrade from budget thermometers
ive had a bunch of cheapo thermometers hanging around for a while and i finally decided to buy something that might actually be ‘instant-read’ and yo the quality difference is real and there. if you’ve been using the 10 dollar digital thermometers from the big name retail establishments this dude is a step up in functionality and i highly recommend it for the hobbyist baker or cook. it’s got a strong magnet, quick response time and easy-to-read screen

Quick & Accurate with a solid build
Javelin Pro Duo ( Black Ink)Initial thoughts after using for our first grilled meal.Un-boxing:The Javelin Pro Duo is packaged very similarly to its high end competitor.instruction book came in handy with clear graphics on all the features & includes good cooking temperature guidelines.I like the orange back-light of the limited edition model compared to the blueish back-light of the other models.Did an initial accuracy test with Ice bath- first in Fahrenheit then toggled the temperature to Celsius , removing the battery cover was quick and easy to remove, just used a coin ( battery is a lithium CR2032 battery.)once battery cover was off without needing to remove battery used a toothpick & toggled the first DIP switch up. to switch to Celsius.Ice bath test was accurate for both imperial & metric. For the real test- used it for a whole roast chicken on the Weber.by the time our chicken was 3/4 of the way done the sun had set and it was perfect setting to test the rotation and backlight of the javelin pro duo. numbers are very clear with the lighting read quickly.Works as advertised & feels solid in the hand.I haven’t messed around with the other features. IMHO it works as advertised & well worth the price. With all the quarantine, we are stuck at home so going to be firing up the grill a lot.I will revisit this after a few months of use.

It works very well – but it is a bit slow. Not super slow – but for this price I rather like to have an instant read thermometer showing me the temperature… instantly. Also: changing it from Fahrenheit to Centigrade is awkward to say the least (in the battery area).Overall nice.

I’ve never been comfortable with cooking meals like chicken and turkey so a thermometer was ideal for me to ensure the meat if cooked.I started with one of the probes with the display at the end. These were tiny and hard to read. When searching for a replacement I saw these and liked the idea of a much larger display and a foldaway probe. It was 3 x times the price of my previous thermometer which still works but I ordered one and when it arrived I wasn’t disappointed. It’s so much easier to use and registers the temperature so quickly I can see which parts of a turkey aren’t thawed or up to temperature as I push the probe in.I tested it’s accuracy using a glass of water with ice in it. As you can see from the photo it registers 0.4°C which is close enough for me.The thermometer uses a CR2032 coin battery accessed from the back using a coin to open the cover.PositivesQuick to register temperatureLarge, clear backlit display100mm probeSwitches on/off by opening/closing probeRecords max/min temperaturesRange – 40°C to -250°CNegativesNone so far

  8. Handsomeness

I can’t say how useful the regular LavaTools PT12 thermometer has been over the past 5-6 years while I’ve grown as a home cook. The Pro Duo version has improved on everything except for maybe the size– the unit gets about 30-50% bigger, which may be tough for some folks, but I feel gave me more control and comfort inserting into tougher meats. It comes in a rainbow of handle colours, but kind of odd only some coloured handles have a blue/white backlight and most others have the orange/red backlight.Like the original, the magnet on it is very handy for slapping it on your appliance of choice or whatever metal racking you have hanging around. As someone who cooks a lot of chicken stove-top, both the original and this one have been very helpful. The original PT12 has only failed me once out of maybe 100 times, where I had a chicken breast read appropriately temp for 1 minute and turned out mildly pink in the middle. Probably fine for eating, just wasn’t great to present after resting and serving– Probably just a fluke where I over stabbed the reading.Overall: Fantastic unit, but you get the same accuracy from the LavaTools PT12 (about 40% less expensive normally), but the Pro Duo has a backlight, can flip the reading readable side up depending on how you probe it and is larger which may be easier to handle for some. Big fan of the magnet for easy storage and access, the colour variety does help if you’re storing it on your fridge or appliance by magnet and the readings are very quick and seem accurate– I’ve only had juicy chicken! If this review helped, please click the button below!

I work in a professional kitchen and this is by far the best, quickest and easiest prob I’ve ever come across hands down defiantly worth the price!

I’m very happy with the performance of this thermometer, it reads extremely quickly (2 to 4 seconds), is very accurate, it’s a good size for adult hands so there is less chance of dropping it, the large display is easy to read & the backlighting is really useful. It isn’t cheap though, but this is a high quality device & on top of that you usually get what you pay for, so I’m hoping that this will serve me well for a very long time. One tip to prospective buyers, mine came with a 10% off voucher from Lavatools, so if you’re planning on buying more than one, just buy one to begin with & then use the voucher to buy the rest.If I’d known this, I could have saved myself 10% on the thermometer I bought for my son.
