An adjustable dumbbell uses a series of removable plates to achieve different levels of weight. The ease of removing and replacing these weight plates makes adjustable dumbbells a desirable, flexible option. The weight plates sit in a rack with the bar in the middle. To select the desired weight for the adjustable dumbbell, twist a dial to a new position on the rack. The rack then attaches the needed weight plates to the bar to equal the selected weight. Reliable and simple to operate
I was starting out pretty fresh with weights at home, and only had a small rag tag group of 2-8 pounds, which wasn’t going to cut it. I had read that people had trouble with the robustness of the mechanism for these adjustable ones, so I was careful about which ones I chose. I’ve used these 2 or 3 times now, and they work perfectly. My big suggestion is to not treat them like the $800+ barbell sets you see at the gym. They work great when you treat them respectfully. Put them back carefully and use the weight adjustment dial as a test to make sure everything is seated properly. Also, they look like they’re reversible in how to put them back in the holder, but they actually seem to want to go back in only one orientation.Very happy with the performance.

1st one
This is my first adjustable weights. The first one quit adjusting after a few weeks. Amazon replaced it because it was within the time frame. But other than the one stopped working for whatever reason I like them that you can adjust the weight that you need. This is my first adjustable dumbbell set so far I’m happy with it.

Great price for a pair of 52Lb dumbbell set!
It took me a minute to figure out had to place the dumbbells back into their rack to adjust the weight size. If you find that you canât increase the weight size just rotate the dumbbell 180 degrees and it should work. Lineup the arrows on the sides of the weights with the arrows on their rack.

Just ok
Kinda difficult to use. Not easy to set back down in unused plates. Dumbbells must be put back in the exact same orientation as removed, or they won’t change weight. Need to be color coded for each tray for replacement. And for which end of the dumbbell goes on which side of the tray.

Eh, safety issue
Ok, while good in concept, not very practical. Yes it saves space vs. getting 5lb increments from 3lbs-44lbs, but difficult to use when you put them on the base rack the wrong way. Yes that’s a minor frustration, not a big deal and would be worth a 4 star review at worst if that was the only issue. But it’s not.The larger issue is its a safety issue unless you work out in steel toed boots. I was doing 34lb curls, and one of the 5lb weights slipped off and landed right next to my toes. Before you think I didn’t check to see if it was secured, you are wrong as this was on my 8th or 9th rep. Had it fell an inch closer I definitely would have a fractured toe or foot. The only reason this is a 2 star and not a one star is no actual injury. So I will be more careful going forward. And if I had the choice, I would not buy this again, but either save up for a dumbbell rack or go to the gym. That being said, I just need to pick up a couple extra shifts at work, and I’ll just trash these and buy that rack. Yes your health is the most important thing you have control over, but not at the expense of safety.
